Lenka Rubenstein paints both portraits and landscapes and is fortunate to be able to do so at multiple scenic locales in the US and Europe: at her Nantucket vacation home; at her home on Hanford Bay/Lake Erie in Upstate New York and at her home in Skochovice on the east bank of the Vltava River just south of Prague in the Czech Republic.
A Czech and US citizen, she was born in the former Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. Holding a PhD in linguistics from Charles University she worked in broadcasting, print journalism, free-lance translating, and now as an artist.
A self-taught painter, her paintings have been displayed in a number of juried exhibitions across the United States in recent years and her portraits were twice selected as semi-finalists for the (British) National Portrait Gallery’s prestigious annual BP Award competition.
Lenka is currently preparing an exhibition of both portraiture and landscapes in Prague for the 2014 summer season and will have an exhibition of US landscapes at the American Center in Prague in the summer 2015.
